An effective Climate Education curriculum requires the integration of many environmentally related topics. This makes the teaching of this subject very complex.
Where do you start? And how do you sift through the enormous number of online resources to find reliable information? And then, how do you arrange and present this information in a way that encourages learning and promotes individual investment in advocating for nature?
The answer is: We’ve done all the research for you and turned it all into easy-to-follow, engaging lesson plans! This is what the Connect The Dots Curriculum is designed to do.
Using a wide variety of arts, sciences, and participatory opportunities, the CTD lesson plans offer a structure that leads the instructor through the teaching process eliminating the need for heavy, confusing preparation.

THE CONNECT THE DOTS STRUCTURE
The Connect The Dots Curriculum is made up of five units, each one addressing a topic of climate concern:
Unit 1 – Forests
Unit 2 - Air
Unit 3 – Water
Unit 4 – Soil
Unit 5 – Animals
UNIT CONTENT
Each unit contains five Lesson Plans. Each Lesson Plan is made up of a variety of individual sequences offering warm-up exercises, observational studies, craft projects, writing opportunities, story readings, reflection time, presentational participation, group discussions and more.
Original music, graphic organizers, book recommendations and other curriculum companion pieces are included.
TEACHING TIME
Each day's lesson plan will take between 10 and 45 minutes of classroom time depending on the length of classroom discussions which are controlled by the teacher. It is important to note that these lesson plans can be used in any order and that each individual activity can be used as a stand-alone lesson.
STATE OF CA STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES
State of CA Standards and Guidelines have been incorporated into the CTD Curriculum. Don't live in California? Most states have similar standards that should be easy to find.
Each Unit is created as a separate video available on the CTD website. Timestamps are provided to make it easy to find the portion of the lesson plan the teacher wishes to present. Vocal narration guides the teacher making forward progress through the material easy and fun!
Each day’s lesson plan concludes with a list of related activities that can be found on the CTD Resources page. These additional immersive opportunities direct the learner’s attention to the wider world of climate action resources. These activities encourage further learning and engagement.
As a member of the CTD community, which requires only the submission of an email address, Unit 1 – Forests is currently available free of charge.
